We are in the midst of a historic capital expenditure supercycle driven by artificial intelligence; yet, data centers—the physical “building blocks” of AI—remain comparatively opaque even as they become part of everyday life. This course provides “ground truth” on what data centers are, how they come together, and the perspectives of the developers, customers, utilities, investors, and policymakers who make them happen. This is a practitioner’s course and does not require a specific technical background; it is for students interested in real estate development and investing, energy infrastructure, public policy, and technology.
