This course is for students interested in leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) tools in business and professional settings in a productive and responsible manner, as well as students interested in developing new GenAI tools. Our primary “target personas” are (i) business users of GenAI tools, (ii) general managers and consultants in charge of digital transformation, (iii) entrepreneurs developing GenAI tools, (iv) investors in GenAI startups. The course aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the potential benefits and challenges stemming from business applications of GenAI. The fast-evolving body of knowledge on GenAI is explored through discussions of research coming out of academia and industry, hands-on guided work and student presentations. In order to use GenAI tools productively and responsibly, it is important to understand how these tools are built, which is the focus of the first module in the course (foundations of GenAI – “the roots”). The second module analyzes current tools (“the trees”). The third module looks at the broader issue of managing GenAI impact (“the forest”).
