This short PhD course aims at covering in detail several important and active areas of theoretical research on firms and organizations. Although most papers will be theoretical in nature, this course is also designed for the more empirically minded PhD students. Seminal papers will be presented, as well as more recent contributions and applications to corporate finance, operations, and accounting. Emphasis will be put on intuition and methodology, and class discussions will be encouraged. The main objective of this course is to help PhD students acquire the skills necessary to write and read applied theory papers, and to encourage research in the area of organizational economics.
